How often do you make soup?We usually provide meals on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We take a break during the Christmas holidays, but the rest of the year you can find us 3 times per week in Twaloloka and Naraville.
-
Do you accept volunteers?Yes! We can always use some help. We have a permanent kitchen team, and Toya takes care of all fundraising and shopping and food deliveries, but we are always looking for some extra hands.
-
Since when has TASK been operating? We started TASK in March in 2020, as soon as many Twaloloka residents lost their jobs because of the Corona pandemic. We did not know we would still be making meals 3.5 years later, but our Namibian children are still suffering and the need help. We will continue until we are no longer needed.
-
Where does TASK's funding come from? You! We have been lucky enough to be supported by Namibian individuals and corporate sponsors. With your help, we will continue to ensure that between 200 and 400 children get three warm and nutritious meals per week. Thank you!

Is TASK a registered charity?Yes! TASK is a registered soup kitchen in Namibia. TASK is registered as an incorporated association (not for gain), non-profit organization under Section 21 of the Companies Act of Namibia. TASK is registered with the Ministry of Finance, with identification number 13164791.We need to provide all receipts and documents to keep our status as charitable organisation. The soup kitchen is registered with the Walvis Bay municipality and the Receiver of Revenue (please click below to see our registrations ), and the health inspector also pays us a visit regularly to make sure we adhere to all standards.

What happens with my donation?Depends on your donation! If you donate ingredients, we will turn them into delicious soup. We can use anything! If you donate bread, we will hand it out with our next feeding session. If you donate apples, we will make our kids extremely happy next time we see them. If you donate a few litres of fuel, we will use it to do our TASK shopping our to deliver food. If you donate buckets, we will use them to transport apples. If you donate money, we will use it to buy groceries and to cover salaries for our kitchen staff. Our funds are always running low, we appreciate any kind of support.
-
Why do you do this?Because we can. No child should go hungry, and sometimes the community needs to step in and help. Namibia is a developing country with a weak social infrastructure and low salaries. It is hard to make ends meet. We never judge a child's background, we are simply grateful to provide relief during tough times.

How much does one meal cost?We work on a budget of N$60.000 per month (USD3200). This budget covers all expenses to make +/- 5000 portions of soup. One meal amounts to N$11, less than half a US Dollar per meal. If our budget allows we treat our children to some apples or oranges, their favorite!
-
Do you have a board?Yes! Here are our 7 elected board members: Toya Louw (Director & Founder) Katja Dreyer (Co Director and Treasurer) Steven Burns Louw (Member) Naude Dreyer (Member) Lindi Dreyer (Member) Martine Behr (Member) Antoine Marc Jean Amory (Member) Every board member is very passionate about TASK and contributes in a different way.
-
Where do you provide meals to children? We feed more than 1000 meals per week in Twaloloka area and 200 per week in Naraville. We always provide bread with our delicious soup, and some fruit, if we can afford it.
-
How do you choose which children you feed?We feed all of them! If a child brings a container, we will make sure they don't leave hungry. From the start, we have only provided the meal. Our kids know they need to bring a little container. It can be a bowl, an empty margarine container, a little bucket, or anything else really. This way, we don't create any rubbish, everything gets recycled. If we have soup left, we give the leftovers to their parents, but only once all children are fed.
-
What do you need funding for?We need funding for everything. We keep our overheads very low, and we buy bulk and seasonal. Many supporters prefer to give us in-kind donations instead of money and that is perfectly fine with us. One day, we hope we can purchase a small delivery vehicle. Until we can afford it, we will make a plan with whatever vehicle we have available on that day.
